What turns the LL-37 gene up and down

LL-37 is not made at a constant level. Its gene, CAMP, is one of the best-known targets of vitamin D: active vitamin D binds its receptor and drives cathelicidin production, linking sunlight and nutrition to antimicrobial defense.

This unit follows that regulation from the vitamin D cascade to the second signals that also switch CAMP on, the relationship between vitamin D status and LL-37 levels, and where in the body the gene runs hottest. Regulation is what makes LL-37 a responsive defense rather than a fixed dose.
