LL-37 reach extends past living bacteria. It shows antiviral activity against several enveloped viruses, shapes antiviral signaling, and, in a distinct trick, neutralizes LPS, the endotoxin shed by gram-negative bacteria that can trigger deadly septic shock.

This unit covers both: how LL-37 damages viruses and tunes interferon responses, and how it binds bacterial endotoxin to blunt sepsis. These roles, more than raw killing, are where LL-37 is most studied as a potential therapeutic, and where the sepsis literature is richest.
