KPV has no folded structure and no metal cofactor, so its chemistry is all about the backbone, the charges, and stability. This unit looks at how the three residues sit together, how an unmodified tripeptide breaks down under stress, and what the published analog chemistry did and did not achieve.

The breakdown matters for the rest of the course, but keep the claim at its real size. Given bare in drinking water, KPV still reduced colitis in mice, and one nanoparticle study reports similar efficacy at a concentration twelve thousand times lower than free KPV in solution.
