Long before tendons or nerves, BPC-157 was a gut peptide. The Zagreb group first described it protecting the rat stomach lining against chemical and stress injury, then widened the claim to complex defects: colitis, surgical joins of the bowel, and even fistulas, abnormal tunnels between organs. This is the deepest and broadest part of the whole literature.
It is also where the honesty has to be sharpest. Thirty years of mostly rat work, almost all from one lineage, sits behind a single human safety abstract (PL 14736, phase 1) and a phase 2 ulcerative colitis program whose efficacy results were never published.
